Algebra & equations
Solve a system of two linear equations by elimination, check it, see the substitution method with “Try different approach”, then test yourself with “Quiz me”.
Set up an algebra session
Open the Setup Wizard
In the tutor lobby, choose Setup Wizard at the top (or Customize). The wizard builds a focused session in four quick steps.
Pick your level — Advanced
Build on Basics revisits foundations, Advanced (recommended) works at grade level, and Expert moves faster with harder problems. Then press Continue.
Choose how you learn — Step-by-step
Direct gets to the point, Step-by-step explains every move, In-depth adds the why behind each idea, and Guide me teaches through questions.
Choose Math, then the focus area — Algebra
Select Math. A Focus area in Math row appears (General Math, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Probability and more). Picking one keeps every explanation, example and practice question on that topic.
Pick a buddy and start
Choose a learning buddy — Sage is calm and methodical, a favourite for math — then press Start Session.
Solve a system of equations
- Add equations(2x + y) + (x − y) = 7 + 2 → 3x = 9The y terms cancel (elimination).
- Solve for xx = 3Divide both sides by 3.
- Back-substitute3 − y = 2 → y = 1Put x = 3 into the second equation.
Enter both equations
Type both equations in one message.
Try it“Solve the system: 2x + y = 7 and x - y = 2”Add the equations
The
+yand−ycancel when you add the equations. Do it yourself and send your result.Try it“Adding them gives 3x = 9, so x = 3. Then y = 1?”See another method
Tap Try different approach — the tutor solves the same system by substitution, so you can choose the method you prefer.
Quiz yourself
Tap Quiz me for a quick question. Answer it and the tutor marks it with an explanation.
Keep learning
Geometry
Use the Pythagorean theorem to find a hypotenuse, see the tutor catch a classic area mistake, and get a labelled diagram.
Ways to learnQuick actions: simpler, different method, example, quiz
Every answer comes with one-tap buttons. Learn what each does — Give me an example, Try different approach, Explain simpler, Quiz me, practice, Summarize, Copy, Read aloud and Try again.
