Statistics & probability
Find the mean, median and mode of a data set, see it as a chart, and work out a two-dice probability — every count shown.
Set up a statistics session
Open the Setup Wizard
In the tutor lobby, choose Setup Wizard at the top (or Customize). The wizard builds a focused session in four quick steps.
Pick your level — Advanced
Build on Basics revisits foundations, Advanced (recommended) works at grade level, and Expert moves faster with harder problems. Then press Continue.
Choose how you learn — Step-by-step
Direct gets to the point, Step-by-step explains every move, In-depth adds the why behind each idea, and Guide me teaches through questions.
Choose Math, then the focus area — Statistics
Select Math. A Focus area in Math row appears (General Math, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Probability and more). Picking one keeps every explanation, example and practice question on that topic.
Pick a buddy and start
Choose a learning buddy — Sage is calm and methodical, a favourite for math — then press Start Session.
Mean, median and mode
- Sort3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8Always sort before finding the median.
- Mean34 ÷ 6 ≈ 5.67Sum (34) divided by count (6).
- Median(5 + 6) ÷ 2 = 5.5Even count: average the two middle values.
- Mode88 appears most often (twice).
Enter the data
List the numbers separated by commas.
Try it“Find the mean, median and mode of: 4, 8, 6, 5, 3, 8”See it as a chart
Charts make patterns — like the mode — jump out.
Try it“Can you show this data as a chart?”
A probability question
- All outcomes6 × 6 = 36Each die has 6 faces.
- Favourable(1,6) (2,5) (3,4) (4,3) (5,2) (6,1) = 6Every ordered pair that sums to 7.
- Probability6/36 = 1/6Favourable ÷ total.
Ask about two dice
The tutor lists the 36 equally likely outcomes and counts the ones that work.
Try it“If I roll two fair dice, what is the probability that the total is 7?”

Calculus
Differentiate a polynomial with the power rule, find the slope at a point, graph the tangent line, then integrate — rules, meaning and pictures together.
Math topicsGeometry
Use the Pythagorean theorem to find a hypotenuse, see the tutor catch a classic area mistake, and get a labelled diagram.
Ways to learnExam prep
Two ways to get test-ready: a quick quiz session from the lobby, and the full Exam Prep area with exams, timed mocks, gap analysis and study plans.
